This Week's "Subconscious Success" Tip

💛 Heads up! I mention the topic of trauma in my share today (no specific stories/shares, just how it relates to inner work)💛

~

As I was surfing Reddit today, I came across multiple self development topics with people sharing things that have helped them on their inner healing journey and also some expressing concern about certain techniques because they feel unsafe or don't resonate.

One person was sharing how they're scared to go buy any "shadow work" workbooks because it feels uncomfortable and unsafe.

I felt inspired to share some quick notes with you on this.

Remember - there are thousands of different paths to create inner change and cultivate wellbeing. Even "the best" solutions that help most people don't resonate with everyone. And a lot of times, it really helps to take a holistic approach that includes multiple solutions that approach the topic at hand from different angles.

Please also know that in a lot of cases (not speaking for 100% of people) the following things are not necessarily required to heal your past or transform patterns of thoughts, emotions, or behavior:

  • Talking about your past in detail or unpacking family/upbringing dynamics

  • Reliving or regressing to past memories or traumas

  • Consciously re-parenting your inner child (in the sense of having to regress to a child version of you and send them resources, etc.)

  • Finding the original "root cause" event of where a belief was formed - or finding a "root" belief

  • Journaling or answering prompts from "shadow work" workbooks

  • Relying on force or willpower to try and make yourself be/feel/think differently

  • Intensifying your feelings or forcing yourself to sit in uncomfortable emotions for extended periods of time

Overall, these popular methods can be helpful (even VERY helpful depending on the person and their unique needs at the time). I've personally at least dabbled in all of these categories and found varying results.

In 2023, I came across the main work of the Andreas NLP team (Core Transformation and Wholeness Work)...and my perspective on what's required to create change has completely transformed because it didn't require any of this, and I was kind of dumbfounded at first.

I've come across multiple folks who believe those things are absolutely required, and after my personal experiences, I don't agree with this! So I thought I'd share.

How to Apply This Tip

If you've been avoiding inner work because you don't feel safe or comfortable doing the things I mentioned above -or- you're noticing that remnants of old patterns you want to change are still unresolved, I invite you to explore some different methods!

~

Note: For trauma related topics - be more intentional and give your coach/therapist a heads up so they can help you choose the most effective process.

~

Here are a few non-traditional processes that I specialize in or have found helpful:

1) Wholeness Work (from Connirae Andreas)- You can work on any life issue without needing to know the specifics or discuss the "content" behind it (e.g. what's happening, who's involved, why it's happening or past event influences, impacts/effects, etc.).

This method directly engages the subconscious mind, using sensory language like visuals and sensations to create change — even for things like mysterious health issues, without uncovering their root cause.

For example, if you start with a feeling of anger, you’ll focus on where the anger is felt, its size, shape, and sensory qualities (light/heavy, soft/hard, warm/cool). By exploring these sensations, the shift happens naturally and actually often at a deeper level than exploring "content" (the cognitive, logical details).

If you work with a guide, you're not absolutely required to tell them the issue you're actually working on or give a lot of details/background in order for this to be effective.

~

2) Core Transformation (also from Connirae) - Core Transformation (CT) works with the idea that our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are driven by different parts of ourselves. For example, one part might want to work on a project, while another wants to relax.

In CT, we simply communicate with these parts through specific questions, usually leading to short verbal responses. We don’t explore meanings, details, or past memories, making the process smooth and enjoyable as you access deeper states without force.

Like Wholeness, you don’t need to share your specific issue with a guide to make it effective. Surface-level issues work just fine — you don’t need to know the "why" in advance.

~

3) Tapas Acupressure Technique "TAT" (from Tapas Fleming) - works by holding acupressure points while going through various statements. You don't have to think or talk about anything and can just relax while doing the pose and being guided through the statements. You can use this to transform anything from emotional challenges to allergies and even traumas.

Why it works (the short version)

In my experience, there are a few reasons why these types of methods can be very effective (even when the person has tried many of the other popular types of inner work).

Firstly, they work in a different way from the common way of doing things and therefore tend to approach inner issues from a different angle.

In terms of Wholeness Work, for example, we work beyond the "content"...meaning the session is spent bringing gentle awareness to sensations the client's system generates vs. talking about the issue intellectually.

Actually in all the methods I mentioned, we're cultivating a deep trust that our system knows the best way to create change creatively as long as we can show it different options or perspectives.

There have been many scientific studies done in the mental health field about the effectiveness of various methods, and it seems that changing the perspective is the thing that makes things different.

One I'm thinking of is a type of journaling where folks with trauma were asked to journal out their trauma event multiple times. The study participants that got the best results tweaked how they wrote out the story of what happened each time to include different perspectives (e.g. they wrote from 3rd person perspective, they included some insights that weren't available to them before, they included less details, etc.).

The folks who didn't have much change kept writing the same story over and over again in the same way. I'd actually be willing to bet those folks maybe even felt more traumatized after the study since nothing about the story had changed, but now they practiced writing it out multiple times putting attention to it.

This is also how most people get stuck with inner challenges as well. We subconsciously repeat our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors - and - until we either interrupt them and start doing something differently or pick up a new way of perceiving the world, we'll keep repeating the patterns. This is why coaches and therapists can be very useful - to help us experience things in a different way. It truly does change our reality.

Ready To Try It?

If you'd like to try a different way of creating inner change that doesn't involve commonly used methods, check out the few that I mentioned or other non-traditional methods!

You can book a session with me to be guided through Wholeness, Core Transformation, or the Tapas Acupressure Technique. I'd recommend setting up at least 3 sessions to start with and see if it's getting you in the direction that you want.

-or-

You can also find free and low cost resources to try them on your own! Check YouTube and the Andreas NLP and Tatlife.com websites.
